Meet Romae Harriott, Registered Marriage and Family Therapist
I specialize in working with individuals with anxiety, depression, grief and loss issues, self-esteem, substance use history, life transitions and working with couples to reduce relational conflict and increase communication, while fostering a stronger, healthier relationship. You are not alone with these issues. Sometimes you want to gain an understanding of these issues as it comes up. I aim to help clients gain insight into their experiences with the help of the right tools to utilize moving forward.
In therapy, I create a safe space for my clients to explore their feelings and recognize different behavior or patterns of behavior. My priorities are to maintain confidentiality and stand by cultural competence in order to join with clients in a non-judgmental manner. I focus on therapy through a systemic lens which enables specialization in interrelationships between self and others and considers not just the client but everyone around them. I utilize different models of therapy such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Play Therapy, and the Gottman Method when working with couples. While using these models, I believe in therapy as a collaborative effort as you are an expert in your life as well and I join the journey with you.
I have a desire to make a difference in the lives of others and find it meaningful to see clients make progress and find ways to overcome obstacles. It is fulfilling to see clients build confidence within themselves and their decisions and see couples strengthen their bond and build communication skills towards a healthier relationship. Therapy is not about you being “broken” but more about being able to address issues, learn healthy coping mechanisms that may lead to better mental and emotional wellbeing that benefits not just you but others around you. It is about understanding different feelings and behaviors and selecting the right tools to use in difficult situations.
If you’re going through challenges, it is okay to ask for help. It is okay not to be okay. If you’re feeling afraid to see a therapist, rest assured that this is normal. Some people may feel uncomfortable talking with a therapist about their personal lives. However, the reasons to go to therapy may outweigh those fears and feelings. People seek therapy to manage mental health conditions, navigate life transitions, improve relationships and enhance personal growth. It takes making that first step towards change. Find the support you’re looking for. Life can be difficult sometimes but I am ready to start the journey towards change with you.
