You Are Not Alone in Your Struggle to Heal from Trauma

Most people will experience some type of trauma during their lives. The word “trauma” refers to a range of stressful experiences, for example a shocking or dangerous event where you felt your safety was in danger, an injury or illness that happened to you or you were witness to, physical or sexual assault, combat, or exposure to death. Many trauma experiences may be healed over time, while others get “stuck” deep in the brain. These “stuck” memories often lead to severe anxiety, fear, depression, flashbacks, panic attacks, mistrust, etc. They can have a profound impact on overall quality of life and mental wellness.

Various treatments can assist in the healing process, so you can find freedom and relief. Regular and intensive counseling and therapy sessions that use methods like EMDR or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy have been proven effective.

With Trauma Treatment, you can find relief from physical and emotional triggers.

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a trauma treatment that uses bilateral stimulation in the form of tapping, tones, or eye movements to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories. Certain traumatic memories can be stored in their own private place in the brain. Think of it like a lock box where the memory is stored and you don’t yet have the combination to get it out. Because these memories are hidden away, your brain cannot use its typical healing processes to manage these past experiences. Unfortunately, because the brain is unable to heal these memories, the person will continue to react when that memory is triggered.

A traumatized person may have high levels of anxiety, fear, and distress. They may suffer from insomnia, flashbacks, mistrust, irritability, rage, changes in appetite, dissociation, panic attacks, low mood, or detachment from loved ones. The brain, because of this past memory, perceives an active threat often entering “fight, flight, or flee” mode.

EMDR works with the brain to connect traumatic memories to the healing networks of the brain. It unlocks the box, removes any blocks, and allows the brain to naturally heal. The memory then becomes part of the past rather than the present—a bad thing that happened but has little power anymore.

EMDR treatment can be performed in regular weekly sessions or in a more condensed, shorter time frame called an EMDR Intensive. In addition to trauma, EMDR can assist in the healing of phobias, panic attacks, stress, addiction, depression, and complicated grief.

What is an EMDR Intensive?

EMDR Intensive Therapy allows clients to receive the necessary treatment in a shorter period of time. This is a perfect option for anyone who has been struggling and wants to see lasting change happen faster than traditional talk therapy. It is a great option for a person who does not have the flexibility to commit to weekly sessions.

At Caring Therapists of Broward & Palm Beach, our EMDR Intensive sessions last 1.5 days. This structure allows you to focus solely on personal healing and growth while in our supportive care. Our goal is for you to leave this intensive session equipped to process and work through past traumas. You will notice a reduction/elimination of triggers, experience more positive feelings in your everyday life, increased self-confidence, reduction of the vividness of images or emotional disturbance, and improved sleep. With EMDR, the client is able to harness the wisdom of their brain to heal themselves.

You can go back to living a safe, calm, free life. There is a path to healing. The professionally trained counselors and therapists at Caring Therapists work with each client to determine the best course of treatment for their life.

If you have doubts and worries about treatment, here are some common questions and answers:

Do I have to share details of the trauma for treatment to be effective?

A positive of EMDR is it does not require clients to provide details of their trauma. It focuses on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors that result from past trauma rather than the experience itself.

Will the treatment be expensive and time-consuming?

Treatment is specific to your personal needs. Clients work with their therapist to determine a treatment plan that will work best for them. Many people find relief from symptoms after just a few sessions, while others find it helpful to keep a more regular and consistent schedule. That is a conversation you can have with your therapist.

Our intensive sessions take place over 1.5 days and cost $2,400.
