We work with local Probation Officers to ensure that you meet the requirements. Our office is conveniently located in Davie, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach Gardens, & Wellington and we offer assessments to people in all of Florida. If you received a citation or have been arrested in another county, we can still complete your substance abuse evaluation for you. We have evening and weekend hours available for those who need an evaluation completed after-hours.
At this time, we are able to complete your substance abuse evaluation through an online session. We use our TherapyNotes portal in order to complete the evaluation. Our sessions are provided through a secure and HIPAA compliant method.
We have Certified Addictions Professionals on our staff that are familiar with what to look for and assess. We will make you specific recommendations for follow-up and help to link any services that you may need.
If you decide to continue with counseling, we offer counseling and therapy services by Certified Addictions Professionals that can help you manage any drug and alcohol addictions. We offer short-term substance abuse treatment. Our treatment is always tailored to each individual client and will be based on your needs.
During the assessment, you will be interviewed by a Licensed Mental Health Professional. They will gather information about your history, your current life and your substance abuse history. They may provide you with a battery of assessments to complete in order to obtain a thorough and accurate diagnosis and treatment recommendation. A common assessment we use is called the SASSI, the Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory. Our staff have found this assessment tool to be the most helpful in determining if follow-up services are needed.
Based on our findings, we have found that some people are not in need of any further substance abuse recommendations. We will provide you with information about our recommendations and what they mean for you. Our team will provide you with referrals for any treatment recommendations that are made. We want you to get the best out of your substance abuse evaluation, in addition to any follow-up treatment that is made.
Upon completion of the substance abuse evaluation, we will provide you with a copy of the report. If needed, we can send a confidential copy to your Probation Officer.
Purpose of a Substance Abuse Evaluation
A substance abuse evaluation is used to identify the possible presence and extent of an offender’s drug and/or alcohol problem. The evaluation also allows for the development of a treatment plan designed to address the person’s specific circumstances.
When a person is arrested for a DUI, the court will likely require the offender to undergo a substance abuse evaluation at some point during the criminal proceedings.
Outcomes of a Substance Abuse Evaluation
If the evaluation determines that you have a substance abuse condition, there will typically be a treatment recommendation. The types of treatment programs vary. But generally, treatment programs must provide a curriculum that includes counseling, assessments, and risk reduction. Depending on the requirements and the recommendations of the evaluator, a DUI offender may be required to complete any number of the following:
- Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and/or Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings
- substance abuse education or counseling sessions
- random drug and alcohol testing
- an outpatient treatment program
- an inpatient treatment program, and
- individual or group treatment sessions.
