Eating Disorders
Are you struggling with the shape of your body? You don’t like the way it looks? The way your clothes fit? Are you constantly checking your body for changes? Does it consume your thoughts?
Are you unhappy with your weight? Does it seem like no matter what number is on the scale, it’s never good enough? Are you preoccupied with the foods you eat and the number of calories you are consuming? Does your life revolve around the next meal?
Are you uncomfortable eating around others? Are you avoiding events that involve food? Withdrawing from friends/family? Are you always dieting? Are you noticing physical discomforts? Lightheadedness? Stomach Pains?
You could have an eating disorder. Eating disorders affect people of all shapes and sizes, ages, nationalities, and personalities. And if left untreated, they can lead to serious health complications or even death. At Caring Therapists, we know what you are going through and we can help you feel comfortable in your own skin—just the way you are.
You Are Not Alone In Your Struggle With Food
It’s estimated that 30 million Americans—20 million women and 10 million men—struggle with an eating disorder at some point during their lives, according to the National Eating Disorders Association. Eating disorders can develop at any point during your life, but they are most prevalent in youth—with up to 13% experiencing an eating disorder by the age of 20.
At Caring Therapists, we want you to feel comfortable in your body. We want you to love yourself. We want to help you be healthy. Our trained therapists can work with you on healthy coping mechanisms, nutrition plans, emotional regulation, and other life factors so you can feel your best.
Eating Disorder Treatment Can Help You Feel Confident Again
At Caring, we use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, to treat eating disorders. It is one of the most proven, effective treatments. CBT helps to connect your thoughts and feelings with your behaviors, so you are aware of unhealthy thought patterns and how they are influencing your actions. Once you are able to recognize those patterns, we will teach you the skills to modify them. We are putting you in the driver’s seat of your life, giving you back control.
You will gain awareness of your thoughts and behaviors. Then, learn how to apply healthy coping skills to manage stress, anxiety, and other factors that could be influencing your perception of your body and decisions around food.
In addition to CBT, we use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to help you manage painful emotions. DBT focuses on providing therapeutic skills in four areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. You will learn how to control and tolerate your emotions, be more mindful and present, and communicate more effectively with others.
Other therapies we use include Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Psychodynamic, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Family Therapy, Reality Therapy, Family Systems, and Nutritional Therapy.
We understand you might be nervous to start treatment for your eating disorder, and you might have some questions. Here are a few common ones and answers:
Will my information be kept private?
We know it can be nerve-wracking sharing personal details and stories of your past. That is why we assure you everything will remain private. We create an environment of trust, a safe space for you to share freely. We won’t pressure you. We are here to support and guide you on your journey to a healthier life.
How much does treatment cost?
We offer a competitive private-pay rate and accept most major insurances, both in and out-of-network. We can provide you with a superbill to help get your services full or partially covered. Our office managers are dedicated to helping you get the treatment you need and deserve. They are happy to check your insurance benefits prior to your first visit.
How long until I start to feel better?
There is no linear path to treating eating disorders. That is why we will work with you to develop a specialized plan that fits your specific needs. Your therapist will take the time to get to know you and learn about what works in your life and where they can help. Most people find some relief from symptoms in about 8 sessions, more or less depending on your specific situation.
