Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Treatment in Davie, Fort Lauderdale, Pembroke Pines, Coral Springs, Wellington, Royal Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens & Online

Do you find yourself consumed with fear over germs or dirt? Are you terrified of things becoming contaminated? Do you need to have things set up in a particular order?

Are there specific rituals you must perform before you leave your home, such as checking to see if the door is locked a certain number of times? Do you get overwhelmed and anxious when things are not done in a particular way? Do you go over the same thoughts over and over again?

Do you have frequent aggressive or horrific nightmares of losing control or harming yourself or others? Are you fearful of leaving the house? Is change of any kind difficult, almost impossible? Are you withdrawing from others? Do you feel shame or embarrassment?

You could have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. OCD can affect people of all ages and backgrounds. It is categorized by a pattern of unwanted thoughts and fears, known as obsessions, that lead you to do repetitive behaviors. For example, if you are afraid of germs you may wash your hands to the point they are chapped and bleeding. These obsessions can greatly interfere with daily life.

The more you try to stop or ignore these obsessions, the more you may find you are consumed with anxiety. The anxiety ultimately leads you to perform these compulsive behaviors to relieve your stress. It can be a vicious cycle.

You might feel trapped by this disorder that seems to rule your life. But, it doesn’t have to be this way. You can put an end to any shame or embarrassment you feel. You can feel happy and confident again. At Caring Therapists we will work with you to address your fears and overcome your compulsions so you can find freedom.

OCD is More Common Than Many Think

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder affects more than one in every 50 people. It commonly begins in children and adolescents, before the age of 25, and changes as they grow. Genetic factors, stress, and other mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety can impact risk factors for the disorder.

At Caring Therapists, we want you to be free from your compulsions. We want you to be ok with washing your hands once, being confident that you locked the door the first time, or whatever compulsions you struggle with. We want you to not be consumed by unwanted thoughts and be able to enjoy life as it comes.

OCD Treatment Can Free You

At Caring Therapist,  we use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, to treat Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. CBT helps to connect your thoughts and feelings with your behaviors, so you are aware of unhealthy thought patterns and how they are influencing your actions. Once you can recognize patterns, we will teach you the skills to modify them. We are putting you in the driver’s seat of your life, giving you back control.

Our therapists also use a technique called Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy. This type of behavioral therapy exposes the client to situations that provoke their obsessions and resulting distress while helping to prevent their compulsive response. We teach you during the moment how to overcome your distress without succumbing to the compulsion. This method teaches acceptance of thoughts without action. ERP is 80% effective in reducing symptoms of OCD.

You will learn how to stop these patterns. You will learn how to apply healthy coping skills to manage stress and anxiety. It is all possible.

We understand you might be nervous to start treatment for OCD, and you might have some questions. Here are a few common ones and answers:

Will my information be kept private?

We know it can be nerve-wracking sharing personal details and stories of your past. We know that you are probably struggling with some shame and embarrassment. That is why we assure you everything will remain private. We create an environment of trust, a safe space for you to share freely. We won’t pressure you. We are here to support and guide you on your journey to a healthier life.

How much does treatment cost?

We offer a competitive private-pay rate and accept most major insurances, both in and out-of-network. We can provide you with a superbill to help get your services full or partially covered. Our office managers are dedicated to helping you get the treatment you need and deserve. They are happy to check your insurance benefits prior to your first visit.

How long until I start to feel better?

There is no one-size-fits-all solution. That is why we will work with you to develop a specialized plan that fits your specific needs. Your therapist will take the time to get to know you and learn about what works in your life and where they can help. Most people find some relief from symptoms in about 8 sessions, more or less depending on your specific situation.
