Five Ways to Improve Self-Worth

You can improve self-worth with small steps everyday that can bring you to bigger leaps towards feeling completely whole.  Improving your self-worth can lead to healthy changes in your life.  The more confident you feel, the greater you will be able to set outside of your comfort zone.  When you step outside of your comfort zone, that’s when the magic happens.  And who doesn’t want magic in their life?

If you are ready to improve your self-worth, try any or all of these tips:

  1. Say positive affirmations everyday
    • Positive affirmations are one of the best ways to improve your self-worth.  Look at yourself in the mirror every morning and say something positive about yourself or the kind of day you are going to have.  Say it until you start to believe it.  Say your positive affirmation whenever you can.  Put a list of positive affirmations on the mirror in your bathroom.  Make another list and put them in your office so you can be reminded of them multiple times a day.
  2. Write a gratitude list about yourself
    • Write down 3-5 things you are grateful for about yourself.  Keeping a journal with these items can help remind you of all the good things.  If you are feeling down, look back at your list so you can be reminded of all the amazing things you are or have done in your life.
  3. Forgive yourself for the mistakes you’ve made
    • Forgiveness is an amazing antidote to cure the feelings of shame and guilt that often keep people from feeling good enough.  Write yourself a letter of forgiveness and let go of the guilt that you have been carrying around.  Living everyday in forgiveness is a wonderful way to improve your self-worth.  When you no longer feel guilty, you can begin to feel happy and worthy.
  4. Let go of shame
    • Shame is another roadblock to improving your self-worth.  When people feel shame, they are often struggle with accepting all the good they have inside of them.  Sometimes working with a therapist can help you let go of toxic shame.  Find a therapist that does inner child work and family of origin therapy in order to learn ways to release old shame stories.
  5. Celebrate your successes all the time
    • It’s time for you to celebrate yourself.  Buy yourself something that makes you feel good.  If you love shoes, buy yourself a pair of shoes you love.  If you like to get massages, schedule a massage for yourself.  Do things everyday that make you feel good about yourself, as a reminder to appreciate and celebrate your successes.
