3 Tips for Managing Anxiety


For some people anxiety is an on-going challenge and for others it can come out of nowhere.  It can sometimes be paralyzing, keeping a person in their home out of fear and keeping them from truly living their life.  Anxiety doesn’t have to be a life sentence, it can be managed in a variety of ways.  The key is to find what works for you.  Here are some simple tips to help you manage your anxiety.

  • Identify the triggers – half the battle is being able to identify what is triggering your anxiety.  If you can figure out when it started, when it gets worse and when it goes away, you are one step closer to managing it.  One way this can be done is by journaling.  You can create a journal that tracks your feelings, when they began, how bad they are on a scale of 1-10 and then tracking what helps it pass.
  • Try simple techniques – There are several techniques you can use to help manage your anxiety.  You can practice deep breathing, inhaling on a count of three and exhaling on a count of three; practicing guided meditation, you can find great guided meditations on YouTube by Doreen Virtue, Louis Haye and Gabby Bernstein; and lastly, try writing, journaling your emotions and stressors can help release them.  If you are holding onto your emotions you are more likely to hold on to your anxiety.
  • Take it a step further – If you can’t seem to manage your anxiety on your own seeking professional help from a therapist could be beneficial.  They could help you identify helpful and healthy coping skills, you can talk about your stressors, and they can help you with additional tips for reducing anxiety.
