Change Your Mindset and Outlook Using Positive Affirmations

Just like any other task you start, in the beginning using positive affirmations may feel strange.  You may not believe the new thoughts you are using to replace the old negative self talk that has been around for so long.   Positive affirmations are used to help redirect our negative thoughts and to help restructure our brains so we can have a healthy mindset.  Here are some ways to use positive affirmations to change your outlook and mindset:

  1. Identify the negative thoughts that are keeping you stuck – This could been negative self-image, depression, anxiety, etc.  One of my favorite people to follow on social media is Louise Hay.  She has amazing positive affirmations that she posts daily and has great Power Thought Cards.  I make it a practice to pull a random power thought card every day.  I keep a deck on my desk and use them with my teenage clients who absolutely love pulling random cards.  Their reaction to how appropriate the card is energetically to what they are going through is priceless.
  2. Be consistent – Consistency is key.  You have to practice your affirmations on a daily basis.  It’s good to say these affirmations to yourself using a mirror.  Keep practicing them until you believe them and then keep on going.
  3. Be intentional – The mantras or affirmations you choose need to be intentional.  You can create your own or find some on-line.  If you are struggling with self-image you wouldn’t pick an affirmation about money.  You want to use affirmations that will help stop and reframe your negative thinking.
  4. Be creative – Make it fun to do your affirmations.  You can use mirror markers and write them on your mirror so you see them every day, write them on post-its and put them on your mirror or somewhere you will see them.  I created an affirmation jar so I can pick random affirmations out and decorated the jar to represent my personality and what I wanted to manifest.  You can get as creative as you would like.
